This study was conducted to explore the understanding and experience of the Santals, residing in Santal Pargana, Jharkhand, about their citizenship.

To explore the understanding and experience of the Santals, residing in Santal Pargana, Jharkhand, about their citizenship. Specifically:

Multiple meanings, the notion of citizenship has for them and the identities associated;

Institutional arrangement influencing the meaning of citizenship and their inclusion/exclusion in matters related to governance.

Impact of their understanding & experience on social & political participation in matters related to governance
Geographical Spread:
7 villages of Dumka district of Santal Pargana in Jharkhand state.
Key areas/components:

Approach followed was that of Participatory research.

Data collection involved three kinds of respondents: 'invisible' members, 'articulate' members of the community and NGO functionaries, government officials, academicians & advocates form the third category

Data collection methods include observations; transect walk, group discussions, dialogue, semi-structured interviews, oral history and a review of secondary literature.
