This project assessed if the method of intermediation for building empowerment of the poor and marginalized at the grassroots is effective and sustainable, comparing it with other possible ways in which CORDAID funds might achieve the same objective.
Objectives:

To assess if the method of intermediation for building empowerment of the poor & marginalized at the grass roots is effective and sustainable, & comparing it with other possible ways in which their funds might achieve the same objective.

To shed light on ways of foreign aid working to create empowerment at village level and to see if the current model can be replicated elsewhere.
Geographical Spread:

65 CBOs associated with 6 RSOs in 7 states were involved in the study.

Additionally, 12 Vas in 6 states were studied.
Key areas / components:

Study was conducted by a team of researchers – one from every RSO/State (in all 7), one national coordinator and an international coordinator.

A checklist of questions was used to elicit answers pointing to empowerment.

Other data collected included real life examples, field observations of the CBOs and Vas, interviews etc.

Consultants also collected annual reports, financial statements etc. of each RSO to assess optimal utilization of funds & impact of activities undertaken.

Type of organizations selected represented 3 important sectors of Indian society & economy.
