Objectives
To address the problem of lack of downward accountability in the delivery of developmental programmes by local self-governing institutions by facilitating social audit through involvement of affected people and influencing decision-makers by disseminating the knowledge gained in the process. This project was also crafted to educate, sensitise and capacitate elected representatives and other stakeholders so that they support and lead efforts to make these local self-governing institutions accountable.

Social audits in 17 gram panchayats of Nalanda (Bihar), Jamtara (Jharkhand), Jaipur (Rajasthan), Panna (Madhya Pradesh), Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), Dang (Gujarat), Mirzapur (Uttar Pradesh), Korba and Rajnandgaon (Chattisgarh) was facilitated. The social audits led to improvements in the delivery of NREGS, demanding accountability from the government and elected representatives.
