The Department for International Development (DFID) was preparing Country Assistance Plan (CAP) for India for 2004 to 2007. Towards this end a series of Consultations were organized in recognition of the importance of a demand driven approach, which sought to guide DFID, India’s future programme and support activity in India.

Towards this end a series of Consultations were organized in recognition of the importance of a demand driven approach, which sought to guide DFID, India’s future programme and support activity in India.
Geographical Spread:
Consultations focused on CSOs working in the States of Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal. The elected representatives of PRIs and Municipalities came primarily from Uttar Pradesh, Uttaranchal, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Key areas/components:
A comprehensive picture emerged which encompassed several issues highlighted by these civil society actors from across States. The participants also deliberated on DFID’s possible role in extending support and defined relationships, which it could establish with Government, Multilateral, Bilateral agencies, Local Self-Governance Institutions and CSOs.
Key outputs:
PRIA, New Delhi facilitated three such Consultations in India involving a total of 90 participants from 60 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and 26 elected representatives from Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Municipalities.
