This project tried to provide a platform to exchange experiences and share tools/ resources and methodologies on local level gender budgeting and increase capacity to better monitor and influence public expenditure at local level.
Objectives:
This study entailed examining in detail Gender Responsive Budgeting (GRB) initiatives in India. The objectives were:
Mapping local level decision-making structures to provide an overview and context for GRB – (looking at resources available at local level and power of local government authorities’ vis-à-vis national government).

Conduct a scoping study documenting the successes, achievements, challenges and obstacles to implementing local level gender budgeting in one district/ municipality.

Provide a platform to exchange experiences and share tools/ resources and methodologies on local level gender budgeting.

Increase capacity to better monitor and influence public expenditure at local level.

Provide local government officials with the analysis of local level gender budget implementation to strengthen gender dimensions in their planning and budgeting processes in order to design and implement budgets that address the needs of marginalised women..
