PRIA with the support from Local Governance Initiative (LoGIn) South Asia undertook a series of activities towards promoting a learning network of practitioners on citizen participation and local governance in Asia. PRIA has initiated another initiative, with the support of LoGIn, South Asia, to strengthen an Asian coalition on Democratic Local Governance. The purpose of this initiative is to exchange the contemporary issues related to democracy and local government among practitioners, working on this subject in Asian countries.

Under this initiative PRIA is organizing a write-shop to synthesize the regional experience on emerging issues related to local governance. The write-shop would be organized during 6-9 November, 2012 at PRIA, New Delhi. The proposed write-shop will build upon the past learning and provide a new space where current practitioners will come together and share their experiences which finally be analyzed and shared among the practitioners for further learning. It is expected that this write-shop will deepen the understanding and expand the scope to analyze the experience on local governance in different countries of Asian region.

This write-shop would be a combination of Workshop and Write shop. On 6th November the programme will start in a workshop mode. Sub themes, identified during the workshop would be further discussed during 6-9 November with selective participants. A synthesis document would be developed during this process for a larger learning.

In this event representative of civil society organizations working on local governance in Asian countries, Chairpersons of the State Election Commissions (SECs) from some of the states of India and individual practitioners will be participating and sharing their experiences.
