The International Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed every year on 28 April to promote safety and health in the workplace and raise awareness on emerging trends in the field of occupational safety and health. In this backdrop,V.V. Giri National Labour Institute, Participatory Research in Asia (PRIA) and Martha Farrell Foundation hosted a Webinar on “Safe and Healthy Workplaces: Occupational Health and Safety with a focus on Gender” on 28 April from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm.

The agenda for the webinar was to:

Define safe and healthy working conditions
Focus on gender differences in occupational safety and health, such as exposure to hazards, health out comes and access to resources
Discuss challenges in enforcement and mitigation
Discuss gaps in knowledge and information - employer/worker, men/women (with the help of case studies from India)
Underscore the role of unions in establishing a gender inclusive standard for informal and formal workplace in a changing world
Develop actions to mainstream gender into OSH, and to promote occupational safety and health in the workplace
