PRIA and VANI (Voluntary Association Network India) are organising a roundtable on “Civic Space in India” to share key findings of recent studies independently conducted by PRIA and VANI with a view to initiating a discussion on the following issues:

  1. The environment in which Indian civil society organisations are functioning today, one that is characterised by regulatory tightening and targeting on the part of concerned authorities. This is a matter of concern, as an open environment for civil society, undergirded by the protection of freedoms of association, peaceful assembly and expression, is the hallmark of successful and stable democracies and contributes to the strengthening of inclusive governance and development.
  2. Strategies for constructive engagement among civil society, the government and other stakeholders and the protection and enhancement of civic spaces in India.
