Women’s day is time to celebrate all that women have achieved in spite of odds and to reflect on challenges and way forward. Women are excelling in all spheres and are achieving the impossible feats.  There are so many of inspiring stories.  At the same time, women are coming out of their traditional roles and contributing to various missions.  Talking about Swachh Bharat Mission, the contribution of women is of no less means.

As the cities are growing, the burden on its services in increasing.  The task of keeping the cities clean is still handled manually and mostly women are involved in it.  Hence, these are the most pressing times to talk and look into the lives of these women, who are cleanliness worriers in cities.

As we are aiming for sustainable development goals and increasing the access to the sanitation services for all, it is important to look into the working conditions and the increasing burden on these women.  Their lives are least talked about and are never in limelight.

The theme for this international women’s day is women sanitation workers and their role in Swachh Bharat Mission.  We are looking at this occasion as an opportunity to provide platform where women sanitation workers articulate their voices and come forward to tell stories. It is also important to engage influential stakeholders. The theme is even more relevant and pressing in light of concerns over exploitative working conditions and neglect of policy making institutions towards this issue.

The objective is also to express gratitude towards the women sanitation workers and understand and empathize with them.

We are partnering with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and SIC Steering committee to celebrate this women’s day.  The location for the event is Community Hall in Ajay Nagar Ajmer.  The participants include women ward councillors, sanitation workers, SIC members and activists. The event will commence from 11:30 AM on 7th March 2018.
