Building Capacities of Elected Representatives for Village Sanitation Planning

PRIA is supporting gram panchayats in Raipur and Sarguja districts of Chhattisgarh to build their capacities to draft their village sanitation plans (VSPs) in order to achieve the objectives of Swachch Bharat Mission (SBM).

Four training programmes were organised in the janpad panchayats of Lakhanpur block, Sarguja district and Dharsiva and Abhanpur blocks in Raipur district on 7 and 8 January 2016. In all 204 elected representatives, inlcuding 90 women elected representatives, from 12 gram panchayats attended. At the end of the training the panchayat representatives were familiar with village sanitation plans and how to prepare them.

These 12 gram panchayats will begin drafting their village sanitation plans. These plans will be presented in the gram sabhas scheduled to be held on 23 January 2016.
