Royal Roads University

Royal Roads University provides high quality, innovative, competitively priced, and applied post-secondary education to working professionals and career-focused students in Canada and around the globe. They have been an accredited university since 1995, but have got a long history of excellence that goes back to 1940, when it first became a military college.

The programmes offered at Royal Roads University, provide the learners with the tools and techniques required to be effective after graduation. The University's vision is to meet the educational and research needs of working professionals and their employers, in a way no other university does. Their mission is to contribute to economic prosperity, social advancement, and environmental sustainability through transformative education for working professionals.

PRIA has recently signed a MoU with Royal Roads University. This collaboration will result in:

  • Joint research activities
  • Exchange of academic materials
  • Development and delivery of specialized short term academic programmes

Indira Gandhi National Open University

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), established in 1985, has continuously striven to build a knowledge society through inclusive education. Today, it serves the educational aspirations of over 4 million students in India and 36 other countries, through 21 Schools of Studies and a network of 67 regional centres, around 3,000 learner support centres and 67 overseas centres.

PRIA International Academy is one of the IGNOU Study Centers located in New Delhi. Currently, this study centre is responsible for the conducting and teaching of the Master of Arts in Women's and Gender Studies (MAWGS). This programme taught in the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode, has been developed by the School of Gender and Development Studies, IGNOU.

The Academy in keeping with IGNOU's guidelines conducts face to face contact classes for these distance learners on a weekly basis, to answer queries, give additional information and other academic support to these learners in the completion of their tasks. This programme is taught by reputed academicians and gender practitioners having relevant qualifications and skills to ensure the highest quality of learning.

A step ahead the Academy has customized the teaching of this Master's programme and has developed innovative approaches to make learning exciting, personalized and experiential.

  • As a prelude to the contact classes, instructors of the programme organise gender workshops, where learners discuss the impacts of gender in their own lives, within families, workplaces and society, thereby setting the tone of gender as a cross-cutting theme both in professional and personal spheres.
  • Talks are organized on a regular basis where renowned speakers discuss issues dealt with in the course such as sexuality, gender based violence, media etc. The virtual platform of Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment), also known as Learning Management System, or Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). Moodle is the preferred interactive platform is used to support interactive and online learning, for learners in this Master's programme, as well as other educational programmes of the Academy.

It is envisaged that in this current batch of learners will be given the opportunity to share their assignments, writings as well as their views on PRIA's Knowledge Portal.

It provides a rich and supportive learning community for students and faculty alike. Recognised for leadership in research, inspired teaching and community engagement, it provides innovative programmes and real-life learning experiences in a diverse and welcoming West Coast environment.

The Academy's collaboration with UViC represents a unique amalgamation of the thoughts, ideas and knowledge born out of partnership between a northern research institute and a southern research based civil society organization.

The practitioner experience from PRIA combined with the expert knowledge from UVic has been crystalized in the form of a unique learning package and delivered by PRIA through some of its International Academy as Certificate courses, such as International Perspectives in Participatory Monitoring and Evaluation and International Perspectives in Participatory Research.
