Course Rationale

As sport continues to grow in popularity as a method to achieve development objectives, it is important to consider the key aspects that are required to plan, design and implement activities for effective sport for development (S4D) programming. These include strategizing various aspects of an S4D program, as well as preparing a theory of change to help guide the objectives of the S4D program. Moreover, to ensure that these objectives of the S4D program are met, appropriate monitoring and evaluation mechanisms need to be put in place.

Though these are standard practices in designing and implementing any development program, this course provides specific guidance to practitioners in understanding the design and delivery of S4D programs.

This course has been designed to make it relevant to practitioners, government officials, policy makers, social workers, sports trainers and managers as well as students and researchers who have limited insight into S4D but are interested in building their knowledge and capacity to integrate S4D approaches within their overall development frameworks.

The course has been developed by Pro Sport Development (PSD), in collaboration with UNESCO New Delhi and the PRIA International Academy (PIA).
