Panchayati Raj Institutions projects

For the past decade PRIA has worked on building the demand for free and fair elections in panchayats. PEVAC (Pre-Election Voters Awareness Campaigns), carried out in partnership with hundreds of civil society organizations, has become a methodology for the empowerment of the poor and marginalized in rural areas.[1] As and when panchayat elections are held in different provinces, PRIA supports a coalition of local civil society organizations and engages with State Election Commissions (SECs) to ensure that the poor and marginalized are able to contest elections out of their free will, that the election campaign is focused on development issues (not on caste and religious affiliations), and voting and counting of ballots is free, fair, transparent and publicly accountable.
