This course is part of a World Bank Institute e-learning program on Accountable Governance. The learning program includes courses on social accountability theory, tools, and strategy. Courses drawn from the material contained in this learning program are delivered in partnership with WBI partner institutions, which adapt and modify the material in order to best match local context and learning needs. This three-module course, ICT for Social Accountability seeks to demonstrate the link between ICTs and social accountability by providing a variety of examples of how CSOs have been able to enter into key partnerships to explore implementation of innovative ICT platforms. This course includes three modules on ICT for Social Accountability. The first one provides a conceptual overview of social accountability, the second module addresses the relationship between social accountability and ICTs, while the third module features some available ICT tools and processes that can be used for various social accountability activities. Practical examples will also be provided . This course is specifically targeting civil society practitioners and key stakeholders that have a general knowledge or specific background on social accountability and are interested to learn more about ICT tools. At the end of the course, participants will undertake a capstone exercise which will focus on designing a project to implement an ICT tool in support of an initiative by their organization.

  • The course is organized into three modules, each of which uses a blend of learning tools and methods to present the key concepts and provide opportunities to apply and discuss these new concepts.
  • All modules use multimedia presentations and selected readings to deliver the key messages. In addition, the modules use some combination of videos, interactive simulations, research exercises and/or case studies to broaden your understanding of the topics.
