    1. What are online courses??

An online course is one that is delivered over the Internet using web pages, e-mail, online discussion forums, etc. PRIA International Academy uses Moodle (Modular Object-Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment), which is the learning platform, used by leading educational institutions across the world, to deliver online educational programmes.

    1. Which is the accrediting body for the Academy's online courses?

The Academy, established in 2005 is affiliated to PRIA, an International Centre for learning and Promotion of Participation and Democratic Governance. PRIA is a leading civil society organisation with a history of 32 years. Its key initiatives have included participatory research, capacity building, knowledge building, citizen centric development, policy advocacy.

The educational courses offered by the Academy are the perfect blend of PRIA's 32 years of practitioner experience and academic rigor. Offered in a distance mode of education, the Academy's courses are examples its pioneering work of educational programmes in the area of social development. The Academy's partners include premier educational institutions such as Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), India; University of Victoria (UVic) Canada; Royal Roads University, Victoria, Canada; University of Toronto, Canada; Institute of Development Studies (IDS), UK.

    1. Who are the instructors for the Academy's online courses?

All the Academy's online courses are taught by a judicious mix of instructors who are experienced practitioners, as well as academic experts. Faculty is drawn upon from internal staff, as well as external consultants in order that learners get grounding in concepts and theory, which are rooted in experiential learning. Faculty is trained in online mode of instruction and delivery, as well as use of the learning platform of Moodle.

    1. How may I apply for an online course being offered by the Academy?

    2. What is the minimum age requirement to join the Academy's online courses?

It is expected that a learner will have completed a minimum of 18 years, in order to seek admission to any of the Academy's courses.

    1. What are the eligibility criteria for seeking admission to the Academy's online courses?

For all candidates seeking admission to both Appreciation and Certificate courses, the requirements are:

      • Command over the English language
      • Basic computer skills
      • Access to Internet

For admission to Certificate courses, a Bachelor's degree in any discipline is required. However, interested candidates who have a minimum of three years field experience, in development programmes may apply to the Director of the Academy for admission to the programmes being offered. Such admissions shall be granted on a case to case basis. Applications requesting admission may be addressed to education@pria.org

    1. What happens after submitting on-line application?

After submitting on-line application, you will get an acknowledgment via e- mail confirming your registration. Once the fees have been received, you shall receive admission to the course and will be provided with a user name and password, to allow you to access the Moodle platform, from where the course is conducted. Please note that access to any course of study will only be available from the day the course is launched.

    1. When are the Academy's online courses offered?

A variety of online courses are offered by the Academy, spread over the year. Please visit our website for the schedule of courses being offered.

    1. Do I have to be online at a certain time?

As online courses of the Academy are all specifically designed to be asynchronous, it allows you the flexibility to be online any day at any time.

    1. I am a working professional and also need to travel as a part of my job requirement. What kind of flexibility may I avail of in my programme of study?

The Academy online courses are designed keeping in mind the working professional. Therefore, you may organise your study schedule to synchronise with the requirements of your job, as well as your personal commitments. You may either schedule your study hours on a daily basis, early morning or late evenings; however, if it is more convenient you may use weekends to fit in scheduled activities/requirements of the course. Please note, however, that all units of the course, including assignments have scheduled start and end dates and it is your responsibility to ensure that all course requirements have been completed by the end date.

    1. What should I do in case I miss a week from my course?

In such a situation please contact your instructor as early as possible.

    1. How do I receive my final grade and certificate?

Each learner will receive her/his final grade in an online certificate. The same shall be couriered as a hard copy to each learner.

    1. What fees are levied for Appreciation and Certificate Courses?

Appreciation Courses

      • Indian applicants INR 3,000
      • South Asian applicants USD 75
      • Other international applicants USD 100

Certificate Courses

      • Indian applicants: INR 7,500
      • South Asian applicants: USD 150
      • Other international applicants USD 300
    1. Are course fees refundable?

Fees once paid will not be refunded. However, in circumstances where a learner has not logged on to the course, she/he may seek permission to join the next offering of the course she/he has taken admission in, within a week from the commencement of the programme.

In cases where the Academy, is unable to run the course due to unavoidable circumstances, the programme fee may be refunded to the learner; alternatively, she/he may choose to take admission in the next offering of the same course, or choose to enroll in another course that is available in the current batch that she/he had applied for.

    1. What are the options for payment of course fees?

Payment for fees may be either through bank/electronic transfer or a demand draft.
