PRIA Youth is dedicated to helping youth become aware, active, and engaged citizens, to make democracy function in their everyday lives. The PRIA Youth-N-Democracy Fellowship aims to engage independent, motivated, and creative young adults who are interested in promoting democracy in their community.

Sex, Gender, and Sexuality are an integral part of human life. And building the understanding around these concepts and ideas among young people is critical to promote gender equality and justice, to create safer spaces for different others, challenge patriarchy, and become comfortable with themselves.

This week at the Youth-n-Democracy Fellowship, fellows were introduced to the topic of Digital Advocacy. The session was facilitated by Ms. Nitya Sriram from Martha Farrell Foundation and aimed at imparting the skills for digital advocacy. The session started with a brief discussion around the importance of social media.

This week at the fellowship program, fellows came to Delhi for a two-day (1st – 2nd October) residential workshop at PRIA. The first day started with a session on understanding Self in Everyday Life.

One of the important aspects of exploring oneself also required the fellows to understand the ‘markers’ of their Identity, including their sexual identity. Identity does not exist in isolation and is formed when a two-way relationship is established with ‘significant others’ influenced by how one behaves in these relationships based on values, attitudes, and beliefs.

This week at the YnD (Youth-n-Democracy) fellowship, fellows engaged in a thought-provoking session on Gender Identity. This session was facilitated by Ms. Nandita Pradhan, Director of Operations, Martha Farrell Foundation.

This week at the YnD Fellowship, Ms. Rajakumari Michaelsamy, a Human Rights Educator, was invited to facilitate a session with the YnD fellows. The purpose of the session was to help fellows understand human rights, learn to value them, and take responsibility for respecting, defending, and promoting them for themselves and others.

PRIA, in collaboration with the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, the University of Punjab organised two days (23rd and 24th August) training with the YnD Fellows as part of their 6-month fellowship program.

This week at the YnD fellowship, fellows were engaged in a   thought-provoking and healthy debate to understand the idea of practicing the constitution in everyday life and explore and understand ways in which they promote constitutional rights and duties within their families, schools, colleges, and workspaces.

After an insightful session on Engaging Youth on Social Cohesion, next in line was the session on learning about Sustainable Development Goals. This session was organized on 25th July 2021 and was facilitated by Juan Pablo Ramírez Miranda, Head of Social and Human Sciences, UNESCO New Delhi Cluster Office for Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.

This session facilitated deeper understanding of sexual harassment and its prevention, prohibition and redressal as per the 2013 Act. Before attending this session, Fellows had completed the online modules on Prevention of Sexual Harassment at Workplace offered by PRIA International Academy.

Young people from other PRIA’s youth initiatives and staff working with young people at PRIA were also invited to participate in this training workshop along with fellows from the YnD Chandigarh Cohort.

The voyage of learning about self and society as part of Youth-n-Democracy Fellowship in Chandigarh kickstarted on the 4th of June. The inaugural session for the fellowship was held on Zoom for over two days on 4th and 11th June.

After successfully conducting the Youth-n-Democracy fellowship in Delhi, the fellowship is now being offered to young people studying in the colleges of Chandigarh. This carefully selected lot of 17 passionate young individuals will undergo an immersive journey of change over six months, starting from the 1st of July 2021.
