Training-cum-Orientation Programme on Role of Panchayati Raj Institutions in Promotion of Water Management
PRIA in collaboration with Arghyam Foundation has started an action research on Implementation of Panchayat Extension to Scheduled Areas Act (PESA), 1996 in Chhattisgarh (with special focus on water). The project tries to address the issues of incongruity in management of natural resources in PESA areas.
A two-day orientation-cum-training programme of all the key stakeholders was held on 24 and 25 February 2012 in Raipur. The programme provided some basic information related to planning processes, especially related to water, that have been adopted by the panchayats in PESA areas. Elected representatives and office bearers of the five selected gram panchayats were invited to participate in the programme. In all, 52 participants (23 female and 29 male) attended.
