“Three months ago only 10 percent of our Gram Panchayat had toilets. After getting information about Village Sanitation Plan and having capacity to develop this plan now we have been able to cover more than 95 percent households with individual household latrines.” This was informed by Nathuram, Ward Member of Sunderkera Gram Pacnahayat of Abhanpur. He further shared that by the end of March 2016 his village will become open defecation free. Nathuram was speaking in a meeting that was organized on 17th March, 2016 to influence the members of the District planning Committees of Raipur and representing Abhanpur block also.

Nearly  65 participants representing Zila Panchayat Raipur, Janpad Panchayat Abhanpur,  Gram Panchayats participated in the programme. During the programme the  Sarpanches of various Gram Panchayats shared about their VSPs and submitted those  documents to the members of DCPs. They also urged that their plans should be  incorporated into the district plans and funds should be released, as soon as  possible, so that that their villages could also become ODF.

During  the programme a session was also organised to generate awareness among the DPC members  as they were not well aware about their roles and responsibilities in DPC. Mr.  Khemraj Khosare (President of Abhanpur Janpad Panchayat) shared that this is  the first time he was hearing about the DPC and its role in drafting of  district plan.
