Ms. Sheela Patel

Chairperson; Founder Director of SPARC (Society for the Promotion of Area Resource Centres) a non-profit society working in issues of equity and social justice in India. After completing her Masters in Social Sciences from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, in 1974, she began her career as a child counsellor at the Nagpada neighbourhood House, a community centre in the inner city of Mumbai. She has been on the board of organisations like Mobile Creches for Children of Construction Workers, Swayam Shikshan Prayog (which supports women's empowerment in rural areas in India), and Partners Urban Knowledge Action Research (PUKAR).

 
Mr. K Shivakumar

Treasurer, is a chartered accountant who pursued a Bachelor of Science from the University of Madras. He is Treasurer, Gandhigram Trust, Gandhigram, and the managing trustee of V.K. Foundation in Gandhigram. He has presented numerous articles, seminar papers, and publications on the not-for-profit sector.

 
Ms. Lalita Ramdas

Member, has been active in literacy, non-formal education and women's empowerment issues in India and internationally. Her early career in formal primary school teaching and broadcasting has been followed by a career in development work through education with marginalised and minority communities, with a special focus on gender and women. She has a degree in English Language and Literature from Delhi University. She is a founding member of the Board of Greenpeace India, and she came to Greenpeace through her commitment to non-violence.

 
Ms. Rita Sarin

Member, holds an MA from the University of Nottingham, UK. A pioneer in women's studies in India, Ms. Sarin served as a programme officer for the Swedish International Development Agency for 15 years before becoming country director in 2001. She now leads a nationwide alliance of 60 organisations implementing Hunger Project strategies to empower women in local democracy. She is the Country Director of  Hunger Project-India.

 
Dr. Joe Madiath

Member, completed his studies from Madras University. In 1969, while still a student, he journeyed across India, Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka on a bicycle for a year. He founded the NGO Gram Vikas, which now works with nearly 2,00,000 people in 559 villages in 17 Orissa districts-building biogas plants, water tanks, pipelines, toilets and complete sanitation systems.

 
Mr. Satinder Singh Sahni

Member, read History at St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi, New Delhi from 1968-71. Later he did an M.Sc. (Econ.) Social Development Planning and Management, from the University of Wales, Swansea, 1992-93. An IAS Officer, he is presently the Principal Secretary (Agriculture), of the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, New Delhi. At the policy formulation level, the sectors he handled included public works, rural water supply, irrigation, cooperatives. At the planning and management level, he worked in various sectors including horticulture, handlooms, handicrafts and sericulture.

 
Mr. Ravi Seth

Member, he qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1985 after obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics & Statistics. Immediately afterwords, he joined ITC Ltd. as a Management Trainee and over a period of 15 years worked in different businesses and roles. In 2000 he moved to HT Media Ltd. (then Hindustan Times Ltd.) where he handled Finance, Legal/Secretarial, IT and Projects. He played a key role in the turnaround of the Company and the brand. In his current role as Director Finance at Abbott India, a listed subsidiary of Abbott Laboratories, USA, he is heading Finance, IT, Legal/Secretarial functions.

 
Dr. Rajesh Tandon

President, is co founder of PRIA, New Delhi. He founded PRIA 22 years ago to provide support to grassroots initiatives in South Asia. A Ph.d. from Case Western Reserve University and an electronic engineer (IIT) Kanpur with a graduation in management (IIM Calcutta), Dr. Tandon has specialised in social and organisational change. Besides being Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Montreal International Forum (FIM), Montreal, Canada, and Voluntary Action Network India (VANI), New Delhi, he serves on the governing boards of many national civil society organisations.
