| The PRIA EDP Unit provides IT and linked facilities to its Head Office, Field Offices, partners and participants of various programmes conducted by PRIA. PRIA has hundreds of IT assets distributed across its various offices around the country and as a consequence managing and keeping track of each resource (users and email records, details of software, computers, printers, scanners, LCD Projectors, camera, PRS Systems etc.) is a primary task of this unit. Our infrastructure provides access to a variety of online applications to users, i.e. access to head office e-mail server, digital library server, data server, web based planning and monitoring system, websites like www.pria.org, www.priaeducation.org www.westbengalcivilsociety.org websites and many other applications. Maintenance of infrastructure and capacity building of users is the major task of this unit. Currently, all computers in PRIA head office are connected to the Local Area Network. Two Linux Servers and One Windows 2003 R2 Server are installed at our Server Room connected with leased line. Users are provided network based file folders that they can access from any computer on the network. We have setup an advanced Computer Users Room with Thin Clients terminal using LTSP (Linux Terminal Server Project). Users can login from any terminal and access their own environment as allocated by the System Administrator. With the availability of Mozilla Firefox browser and Internet Explorer, users can access the entire web based applications. MS Office as well as Open office is being used for word processing, spread sheet and power point presentations. Students of different training programmes as well as persons from field offices and partner organisations mainly use this system. We provide desktops as well as laptops to our staff at the head and field offices that is connected through our wired and wireless technology at PRIA Head office and PRIA field offices. Each field office has a Local Area Network with Broadband Services. Support to Partner Organisations to strengthen their head offices and field offices is part of our ongoing Information Technology initiatives. An IT policy has been developed to guide all the users pertaining to various norms, copy rights and other information while using the computer and related services provided by the EDP Unit. |
