National Consultation on the People’s Mid Term Appraisal of the Eleventh Five Year Plan,
New Delhi, 4--5 February
Sharing the major findings and outcomes of the people’s mid-term appraisal of the Eleventh Plan, a two-day national consultation to facilitate a sustained dialogue with the Planning Commission was held at the India Social Institute, New Delhi, 4--5 February.
Speaking at the occasion Dr. Rajesh Tandon, President, PRIA, stated that the annual assessment of state plans by Planning Commission must focus on the benchmarks of democratic governance. He pointed out that reforms from the citizens’ perspective have not been made so far. The participants discussed the challenges and achievements with regard to the social services sector, economic sector, social exclusion and governance.
The national consultation marked the culmination of the process initiated by a diverse coalition of civil society organisations for the People’s Mid Term Appraisal of the Eleventh Plan, to mobilise people’s voices on how the Plan has worked. Organised by the Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA), National Social Watch Coalition (NSWC) and Wada Na Todo Abhiyan (WNTA), the consultation aimed to ensure that civil society is included in the process of the formulation of further Five Year Plans.
